Food Safety Supervisor Course (Nationally Accredited)
This unit covers the full requirements to be a Food Safety Supervisor in the Retail industry. This course takes an in-depth look at what is essential to implement safe food handling and storage practices and a food safety program within a retail food environment.
This course covers how to test for and correct any breaches in food safety, understand how to dispose of waste and contaminated goods safely, and maintain personal hygiene in a manner appropriate to the workplace. This includes knowing what to do, and what not to do, in the case of illness. This course applies to frontline service personnel involved in preparing, displaying and selling retail food.

UNIT OF COMPETENCY COVERED
SIRRFSA001 – Handle food safely in a retail environment
IMPORTANT FOR NSW STUDENTS: In order to operate as a Food Safety Supervisor within New South Wales you require a certificate from the NSW Food Authority. A NSW Food Authority certificate is required to be added at the checkout if you work in NSW, at an additional total cost of $35 ($30 is the price the government charges to provide the certificate + $5 for printing and postage costs). This will be listed under “Optional extras you may wish to consider” after you select to enrol in this course.
Students in other states/territories (VIC, QLD, SA, TAS, WA, NT, ACT) do not require any additional certificates as the Statement of Attainment gained in this course is all that is required to operate as a Food Safety Supervisor in these locations.
You need to be working in the food industry to complete the assessment requirements
Our courses require a workplace supervisor report to be completed, which will provide evidence that you can demonstrate your practical skills in a workplace (your workplace supervisor may be anyone with at least 18 months industry experience (eg. boss, co-worker, employee).
If you are looking to start your own business and you have no current food industry experience, or do not have anyone that can act as your workplace supervisor, then our course is not for you. In this situation, we would recommend that you research a reputable company that you can complete a face to face food safety course with. There, you can complete simulated activities in a suitably resourced training space and be observed by a qualified trainer.
